Chapter 8: Logistics

International business

AMAZON LOGISTICS

To those who've used Amazon before, we all know it's the best place to order things from online. It's safe because you know you're never going to get scammed on anything, whether it's money or item wise. It's better than other websites known as Ebay or AliExpress because those are sold by individuals where as Amazon are from warehouses around the world.

They either travel through ground or air and is one of the most efficient places again to order items online. It's all about logistics.

But like everybody says, nobody is perfect and well, Amazon isn't either. There have been hundreds even thousands of complaints about amazons. Some varying from "I didn't receive my order" to "The item I received is broken" to even " My order said it would be delivered in a week transportation and it took a whole month to come."

This brings up the question "Is Amazon reliable Ordering Website?" This meaning things such as
  • "Is transportation Timing good/on point?"
  • "Will they mess up my order?"
  • "Is the price reasonable?"
  • "Will my package be delivered on time?"
  • etc etc etc....
IN MY OPINION, I believe Amazon is reliable. Why? Because they're actually pretty efficient with this type of business. Like I said before, nobody is perfect which is why ill allow them to screw up a bit of times.

They goes as far at to tracking you package if you're wondering where it is.

"If you have a tracking number for Your Order, the carrier may have more information than the Amazon.co.uk website. When you place an order include a contact phone number with your delivery address. If there's any issue with the delivery, the carrier will use that number to contact you."
                                                                                                              - Amazon.co.uk

Given these points, there are many questions as to how Amazon is reliable. Correspondingly, they have great logistics regarding their transportation of items and keeping track of their storage. Amazon is known for its huge storage where they keep great amounts of up-to-date items and also other old miscellaneous items. How do they speed up the time to find and collect the item you may ask? By installing robots to increase efficiency of time and effort. The supply chain at Amazon warehouses are supposed to "... pick two or three times faster than we used to". So knowing this, I believe that since Amazon seems to have there priority straight, I believe that it's a reliable company.

"Do you know another company who has problems with Logistics?"

"MY TITLE":  MANNY PACQUIAO VS MAYWEATHER FRAUD OF THE CENTURY

On May 2, 2015, both living boxing legends Manny Pacquiao & Floyd Mayweather FINALLY fight for the first time at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. I'm writing this blog right after the fight and for those who watched it, you would know how boring the actual fight was. The hype was trending everywhere about how Mayweather or Pacquiao was going to destroy or knock out each other. They even called it the FIGHT OF THE CENTURY. The rounds went on as usual with limited action shown. They fought through 12 round with the obvious winner being Floyd Mayweather since Manny didn't knock out Floyd. After watching this fight, you take in how much people paid to watch this on Television, the cost of the ticket to watch this live and how much each fighter makes for fighting. Then this question drops in,
"Did Mayweather and Pacquiao pull the biggest heist/robbery every known to man?"

Just letting this settle in,
Example of How Much He Made Last Fight
  • Mayweather will now take home $179,808,511 (£116,554,424) as opposed to Pacquiao who earned $119,872,340 (£77,702,949) on the night.
  • The purse for the fight was set at $300million (£194,502,705), which both boxers agreed be split 60/40 in the American's favour prior to the fight.
  • Over the 12 rounds, Mayweather earned $4,994,681 per minute of action, with Pacquiao earning $3,329,787 per minute.
  • That means that by the end of the first round, Mayweather had already amassed $14,984,043 - almost $5m more than Pacquiao's haul of $9,989,362.

Both Fighters kept there reputation because both fighters didn't K.O. or "beat up" each other showing that this fight could have gone either way. Basically saying nobody lost but if there were to be a winner, why not the American hero Mayweather.

How did this happen? Lets take a look at the history of the bout. Floyd Mayweather the undefeated, five-division world champion and Manny Pacquiao eight-division world champion are arguably the two best boxers the sport has seen in many years. Who wouldn't buy a ticket to see this? It all about how they marketed the event.

THE FOUR P's OF MARKETING
price, product, promotion, and place.

Price:
Cheapest tickets sold: $2,959-$5000
Expensive tickets sold: $40,955-$120,000
Most expensive ticket sold: $351,005
Average price paid: $6,268
Lets be honest, nobodies crazy enough to buy those tickets EXCEPT for celebrities and other rich folks. The tickets sold were targeted to those who were rich. For those who couldn't afford tickets, it was the television that came for us. If we were to watch on television, they would charge us $100 to watch. Still a bit high in terms of price but still better than buying a ticket.

Product:
The product obviously "sold" were the fighters. MANNY PACQUIAO vs FLOYD MAYWEATHER. Both Legends and one of the highly respected fighters in the world. Who wouldn't want to see this fight. They're rivalry has been going on for years and its what people have been waiting for.

Promotion:
Both fighters have had a rivalry going on for years and they're finally fighting. This fight was called the "FIGHT OF THE CENTURY". The Fight everybody was waiting for. This drew people in to watching the fight because it was basically said to be the best fight yet.

Place:
The place this was held at was at Las Vegas at the MGM Grand Garden arena. This was targeted for the rich people in society who are actually able to fly out there and watch the fight. Plus it pretty hot there so there no worry of being to cold there. It kind of makes sense to because people like to spend a lot at Las Vegas and it would cleary be perfect for those type of people due to the price of the ticket.

By taking in those Marketing techniques, you can see how they "scammed" us a bit. It just wasn't worth it because we all knew if Pacquiao didn't knock out Mayweather, it was over. If you missed the fight, ill give a quick summary about what happened, and this actually happened. Floyd Maywather ran laps around the ring while Manny Pacquiao tried to hit him. That was it, Fight of the Century right? The only time Floyd came into contact with Manny was when he came to hug him instead of punching him. I can picture it right now, Manny and Floyd sitting on there private island, relaxing drinking PiƱa colada on the beach. Having a good laugh about there fight as we speak.

Can you think of another event where the perfect marketing skills made men richer than they were before?

Article Title:  India's new CSR law sparks debate among NGOs and businesses
Ashok Prasad Monday 11 August 2014

What is a NGO & SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY?

A non-governmental organization (NGO, also often referred to as "civil society organization" or CSO) is a not-for-profit group, principally independent from government, which is organized on a local, national or international level to address issues in support of the public good. Task-oriented and made up of people with a common interest, NGOs perform a variety of services and humanitarian functions, bring public concerns to governments, monitor policy and programme implementation, and encourage participation of civil society stakeholders at the community level. Some are organized around specific issues, such as human rights.

Social responsibility is an ethical framework which suggests that an entity, be it an organization or individual, has an obligation to act for the benefit of society at large. Social responsibility is a duty every individual has to perform so as to maintain a balance between the economy and the ecosystems.

About The Article

India is the first country in the world to mandate corporate social responsibility. On 1 April this year, the government of India implemented new CSR guidelines requiring companies to spend 2% of their net profit on social development.

It sounds like legislation to be celebrated – but does it go far enough? Global Reporting Initiative's (GRI) Sustainability Reporting for Sustainable Development conference, held this June in India, issued a joint declaration stating that while the government bill was welcome.

NGO evaluation portals and the pooling of resources by SMEs could help to streamline the CSR investments, and questions will continue to be asked about the government's role in mandating such investments. Even as this debate continues, the more important question that the Indian businesses need to answer is how do we align these government mandated CSR activities to handle India's socio-environmental challenges while enabling better long term profits for the business?

Article Title:  G20 PROTEST
by Greg Shupak

Why did the G20 happen? Well the are many causes that lead to the horrible outcomes on June 18-28, 2010. It includes issues like poverty, climate change, gender equity, and other reasons as to why the riots occurred.

Lets begin with poverty. According to OCAP (Ontario Coalition Against Poverty) representative John Clarke, "The whole process of putting together this grouping has been about impoverishing people, and benefiting the richest members of society." What this means is that OCAP is protesting a policy that would mandate governments to cut back on social spending and increase user rates and taxes in order to reduce deficits - this is a good thing because this policy would leave people in distraught and in poverty. Clarke also says that the money being used for the summit could also be used to cover the cost of social benefits in Ontario for the next five years. "It's deeply offensive, but in a bizarre sense there's also something strangely sitting about the representative of the wealthiest people on the planet getting together to devise an agenda of austerity and dinging us for $1 billion in the process."

Gender equity was also a huge part this rally, and is one of the vast reasons why it happened. Gender equity was also a huge part of this rally, and is one of the vast reasons why it happened.  Gender equity is what the G20 doesn't

Gender equity was also a huge part of this rally, and is one of the vast reasons why it happened. Gender equity is what the G20 doesn't pay much attention to according to Dagmar Werkmeister of Gender Justice in Toronto. “It’s illegal to be homosexual in more than seventy countries in the world, and they don’t do anything about that.” Instead, a hot topic in Canada, women's rights is what the conversation quickly shifts to. “It’s absolutely outrageous to have maternal and child health on an agenda when you’re not willing to talk about family planning,” said Werkmeister. “Women around the world are not going to be given the same rights that Canadian women are given in terms of when I reproduce, how I reproduce, or if I reproduce.”
